Got my first RCS text spam, sent to 12 random numbers. I blocked and reported spam, but people just *have* to reply all don’t they.

(I know, replying to spam, who even does that? SIX OF THESE PEOPLE THAT’S WHO)

Fairytales used to warn the innocent about the dangers of dark forests, wild animals, sexy strangers and rogue merchants.

We need modern fairytales to warn of open communication protocols, algorithms, sexy strangers and rogue traders.

@aegir "Grandma, what big free online storage you have!'
@timbear Hansel and Gretel sign up for free sweeties that needs Grandma’s credit card number ‘for verification’ and other stories

@aegir
“teaching moral lessons, fostering imagination, and providing a framework for understanding life's challenges, a safe space to explore complex emotions and situations, helping children develop coping mechanisms and social skills. “

They did. Pretty much the diametric opposite of that now; Modern Fairytales now are about Epstein, Vaccines and America’s place in the world.

@aegir wow 50%
I shouldn't be surprised
@dillyd The more this happens the more I want to only communicate through handwritten letters.
@aegir ah those were the good old days with handwritten chain letters.
@dillyd Oh that's a point. We occasionally get handwritten junk from the Jehovah's Witnesses. That's actually a bit disturbing.
@aegir oh I've seen photos of those, they're really awful. I've been fortunate enough to not receive any myself
@aegir Ugh, one (very large) hospital I worked at managed to send a message to all staff instead of all managers at some fairly senior level. The sheer number of absolute muppets who hit reply all to type "why am I in this list?" was very worrying from an institutional security perspective. The IT department had to send out a mailshot to tell them to stop and we still got the odd one or two, who I'd like to think were launched out of a catapult into the sea.
@doombunny It’s really hard to explain to people the dangers of it. It’s like the "Well I've got nothing to hide" brigade.
