Spent the morning at the #RoyalInstitution with child2 for a "maths masterclass" - a few lectures and panel session to promote #STEM for teenagers.
The first session was a #maths academic from #Cambridge who talked about the maths of folding paper and then modelling diseases spreading and made both really accessible and engaging.
The second lecture was an #AI engineer from #Google. I was a bit sceptical but he was great … The questions the kids asked were even better though and really made him think. Like "given how much water it uses, is it worth it?" and "what are we doing to make sure it doesn't revolt?" And "just because it can do something, should it?"
Not sure he was expecting a quietly and very politely confrontational teenage audience but he handled it really well and had some great answers (but I could see he had to think!) 😝
