@ClintonAnderson @todayilearned No. The spec authors were labouring under the mistaken apprehension that "This peanut butter slogan exists" was sufficient condition for that to be "a joke". It was corporate shilling without reason or compensation, which is actually worse than doing it for pay.

When Compuserve announced GIF, they did some weak-as-milk "joke" like "It's pronounced with a soft G because 'Choosy SysAdmins Choose GIF'" or some shite. They were just giving JIF® brand Peanut Butter Food Product™ free advertising, and it was never funny.
