Meh. People post this quote constantly.

I've yet to see a single one of them propose a better viable alternative.

@AlexanderKingsbury She imagined many alternatives in her books.

@sol2070

People can imagine all sorts of things. Whether they are viable and superior? That's quite another matter. I've listened to people complain about and express hatred for capitalism and capitalists for decades, but never once have I seen anyone propose a viable, superior alternative, in writing or by any other mechanism. I've seen very few even try.

@AlexanderKingsbury Many people also imagine that non capitalist options are not viable. I understand your opinions.

@sol2070

It's hardly a simple imagining. We also have an ample body of history to support that conjecture. Also, the fact that so many people apparently want an alternative and yet so few of them attempt one (and practically none succeed). Look at how tiny and rare non-capitalist "intentional communities" are, for example.

@AlexanderKingsbury Your argument disregards the fact that capitalism's predominance is not solely due to its merits. It does not allow alternatives to emerge or flourish. If there were no subjugation, fully viable alternatives that people prefer would flourish. I disregard socialism. Its authoritarianism is worthless and, deep down, it follows the logic of capitalism...
@AlexanderKingsbury ... But there are several small decentralized and autonomous communities, as you yourself said, suffering constant pressure from the capitalist system. Right here we are talking in one form of these communities, most of the fediverse does not follow capitalist logic. The federation by voluntary association of diverse communities is an anarchist concept.

@sol2070

Completely false. Free market capitalism is the only economic system that tolerates others. If you want to functionally live as a socialist under capitalism, go right ahead. The other way around? Not so much.
