The thing to remember in politics is that Govt's treat immigrants how they would like to treat the rest of us, if they could.

If they are compassionate towards refugees & migrants more generally, then we might expect them to be benign in their relations with the general population, when they 'crackdown' on migration, they really also want to 'crackdown' on those parts of the population who do not comply with their policies or do not support their prejudices.

@ChrisMayLA6 I think it's even deeper than that. They act towards refugees like they want to towards immigrants, like they want to towards everyone that isn't part of their inner circle. I think refugees and those deemed “illegal” get the harshest. We should shine a light on them. Meaning those that haven't yet “legalized”

In the US, the huge budget increase ICE got is way more than they need to deal with immigration; pretty sure political opponents and other 'non-compliant' folks will be their next targets.
