Nowhere GirlYou would think that ICE showing up in combat armor with a truck mounted machine gun to "arrest" (kidnap) little old ladies and child cancer patients would finally drill it into Americans' heads that immigrants are not dangerous and the only heavily militarized, ultra-violent gang in this country are cops.
I know it won't, of course, because this country is so stupidly racist and MAGA world is still convinced (or pretending to be convinced) that multiple cities were literally burned down by "Predator 2" style gang warfare a few years back.
While it's also performative and meant to intimidate, there is something so pathetic about ICE showing up everywhere dressed for urban warfare and finding no one to fight except the local ice cream man and some elementary school kids. The entire premise behind these raids and ICE's very existence is wrong.
Unfortunately, the politics of white America, which foisted Trump on us, are rooted in the self-pitying racist delusion that they are under siege, which "justifies" domestic military occupuation.
And while some MAGA people have been deflated to realize it's fake, there is no border crisis, no urban war zones, and 🎶 it was billionaires all along 🎶 most of them have simply retreated even farther from reality.

It's the social & cultural conversion of performance security that we've lived with for decades as a 'protective service", directly transformed into 'paramilitary occupation'. Which is also a return to pre-Civil War (and more hidden KKK in Jim Crow era) occupation by militia for the most part.
@Kalshann The War on Terror provided a bipartisan permission structure for mass surveillance and militarized police, which were always going to be used on non-white Americans and political dissidents as soon as the initial threat turned out to be largely a mirage. Hence the hyper-violent police response to BLM and pipeline protesters. (White supremacist terror attacks like OKC failed to muster any meaningful response in comparison.)
@Kalshann The politics of the past become the politics of the present because this is what America is designed to do with even the flimsiest racist pretext. It's the same mindset driving blind support for Israel: "Good white people threatened by non-white hordes have to defend themselves!" White liberals in particular need that narrative to be true, somewhere, in order to manage their own hypocrisy.
