Just realizing that the https://botsin.space domain has been memorialized last week.

@stefan very sad, it was a great place to find odd and unusual bots. I’ve missed it.
@nathan Yeah, and I was hoping the site would stay up for a little while. I guess it was still too expensive to keep it running, even without active users. Bummer.
@stefan explains why my bot has been so quiet recently

@stefan I saw a news item about it late last year I think, found the link to the announcement.

RIP botsin.space

@carl Yes, I was just hoping the server would stay in read-only mode for a bit longer. Too bad!

@stefan @carl fediverse software should really have a “memorialise” function that turns the entire public facing content into a static site that can be hosted for peanuts.

Mastodon for example requires enormous resource once you get past a certain scale even when not being actively used.

Watching these bastions of the verse fall silent is sad, but what’s more is their passing leaves a void on the internet, a digital dead zone.

@carbontwelve @carl Love the idea!

Would you actually be interested in opening an issue with your suggestion?

Might not get implemented right away, but would be great to have this on their radar.
