I’ve put 700 miles on my e-bike and the only maintenance it’s needed was changing the brake pads (took 5 minutes). I charge the battery at work to get free power. It’s extremely cheap, virtually carbon-free transportation.

@benlockwood

How far do you go? how fast?

Edit: oh, right there in the link! 60 miles, 20 mph

@benlockwood They’re wonderful vehicles, aren’t they? I’m on track to put more miles annually on my bike than I ever did when I owned a car. Post-brain surgery last year, when I was forbidden from driving, it helped me regain my mobility and independence. It contributed to my rapid physical recovery. I also live next to the bike path in Chicago, and it’s perfection for getting around.
@benlockwood personally I like bikes without assist, but if you are after the least emissions possible ebikes are actually preferable; generating the power to charge the bike (on the Danish grid at least) produce less CO2 than the food you'd eat to generate the power yourself by pushing pedals!
@benlockwood no punctures?
@peterbrown Nope, none so far on this bike
@benlockwood it’s one of the things that really puts me off cycling because punctures used to be an issue.
That and chains coming off the chain wheel.
