Is cooking art? I propose this:
Cooking is an art—a performing art.
I’ve been thinking about this lately. Usually, when the subject of culinary arts comes up it quickly moves to the output of the cooking, the food, or possibly the experience of eating.
Very little is said about the experience of the cook and the process of cooking. Sometimes in open restaurant kitchens or certain special restaurants you get to see the cooking being done as an audience member.
But for the most part, cooking is a performing art where the audience and the performer are one.
