@Nonya_Bidniss they don't even need an emergency. The legal standard is just that POTUS has to say there is one. No legal system can work with an evil narcissist in charge.

@Nonya_Bidniss
Not so fun fact:
The german government doesn't need an emergency to break the law.
And when a court decides on a case, the government doesn't think it has to follow the ruling.

Sounds familiar?

@Nonya_Bidniss πŸ’‘ βœ… true & uncool of 'em
@Nonya_Bidniss When all you have is sovereignty everything starts to look like the exception.

@Nonya_Bidniss I'm pretty sure this is the thinking behind the less irrational conspiracy theorists out there. Like "9/11 was an inside job" didn't seem all that unreasonable to me. Especially if you consider all the illegal stuff they did in response AND all the abusive laws that got passed and agencies for created. The absolute destruction of privacy was massive, and it still doesn't touch the very real harm done to so many people in the wake of it.

Inside job or not, everything that was done in response was almost entirely blatantly wrong.

@Nonya_Bidniss precisely that's how it always happens (or rather gets done)!
@Nonya_Bidniss the Russian government still hasn't fully lifted the covid restrictions. The only restriction that still remains is the one forbidding protests. Even just standing alone with a sign, even if that doesn't break the "discrediting of armed forces" law, gets you arrested and fined for violating the sanitary norms or whatever. It's hilarious how creative they are but it's also sad as fuck.

@Nonya_Bidniss

Is there a meme award? I nominate this one.

@Nonya_Bidniss ...the best way is to make a law which describes in which very specific scenarios/cases you can break other laws, most democracies have these laws, in itself they are OK but they can ofcourse be misused. But the fact that governments can break laws in specific emergencies is totally normal.
@Nonya_Bidniss You just need to create a law, which allows the government to break the law, in case of emergencies.
Then breaking the law is totally legal.
"ErmΓ€chigungsgesetz" ("enabling act") anyone?
And this is the reason, while all the "constitutional safeguards" are just tripwire, to know, what is happening. In itself, they won't prevent ANYTHING.
@Nonya_Bidniss The name of the guy in the photo is Carl Schmitt?
@Nonya_Bidniss exactly! #democracy is a verb, WE ARE DEMOCRACY! The government isnt doing democracy for us! All #government at all times have (some) second #agenda! Keep 'm in line!
@Nonya_Bidniss
Or just call something an emergency that clearly isn’t.
