Here's a thing about me, usually, I love holidays and celebrations. Life is short and often cruel, so celebrating feels like a rebellion against the difficulties of life. As many of you know, today is American Independence day, and it's been hard, in many ways, today feels more like a funeral, than a party. I don't always know what do with these feelings, I try to be optimistic, but sometimes trying to find the good is very hard.

Today I've decided to celebrate the world I'd like to live in, I'm going to celebrate the people I am working to build that life with (hey, you all are those people)! If they take all of our joy and traditions, then they have already won. Joy and kindness in uncertainty is the greatest part of humanity. The fact that we strive to go on in the face of so much ugliness is a thing of beauty.

Women in concentration camps would share recipes and create fantasy cookbooks of dishes they would serve when they could again. These people in the darkest places still believed in preserving their joy, culture, and dignity. Their act of resistance was hope for the future.

So, I'm trying, when I'm scared, when I'm overwhelmed, to remember that I am also more resilient than I often feel, and I hope you will too. Love to all.

@RickiTarr

Ricki! We The People will do this. The Trump regime will join Macos, Milosevic and Cesucescu in the dustbin of history.

The national protests (No Kings and the upcoming Good Trouble on July 17th) are the start! Take part!

We will resist ICE! We will stop doing the work. We won’t pay for armed terrorists to kidnap and torture people. We won’t operate concentration camps.

@RickiTarr We too are going to go celebrate. I haven't flown a flag for a decade now, I still won't because I couldn't do so without flying it upside down.

We are going to our community picnic and will talk with like-minded people and the magats can go screw off. I'll be wearing Red-White-Blue and I plan on being part of the group of people that takes our country back from the fascists.

Have a happy 4th, celebrate like it's June 19, 1865...the true independence day in our country.

@RickiTarr thank you Ricki. International news is dreadful and has been for many years but we are in deep trouble as the climate roasts and the most vulnerable are targeted. the States have a monster at the helm and his crew are amongst the most heartless repellant people we are likely to endure for many years to come. I relish the thought of their eventual ignominious exit and trust that people of goodwill can prevail.

now going to read your message about Polish orange paintings of resistance.

@RickiTarr
I want to think of today as "Happy birthday to the USA that always should have been" and a funeral for a USA that was never great for everybody.

We ARE going to have a funeral in this country. But WE are the ones who get to choose whether it's a funeral for white supremacy or a funeral for democracy.

@MaryAustinBooks

It's Independence Day to be independent of all those assholes who spit on humanity, we feel it over here as well with our government making helping so many in need punishable by law, the world is filled with dirtbags grabbing the power, and this is OUR independence day of these dirtbags!

We are and will stay kind, considerate, and caring, and we will spit and fart in the general direction of these assholes!

@RickiTarr

@RickiTarr
Thank you for this.🫂🩷

@RickiTarr

Beautiful. Thank you for this.

This is the 1st thing I saw today..

You perfectly described the way I feel today. Really really sad that #Fascism and #Tyranny are ascendent and #Liberty #Freedom and #democracy seem to be history.

Being grateful for friends and community is a victory of sorts. Thanks for reminding me.

@RickiTarr

I feel much the same as you, some days I can't tell the difference between my anxiety and anger.
When the day comes that we take back our country, I think we should make that day a national holiday too.
Then every year we can celebrate 2 Independence Days and never let this happen again.

@RickiTarr I, too, have not felt like celebrating our country’s Independence Day. However, what you wrote is so beautiful and inspiring. Thank you.
@RickiTarr Never stop shining your light Ricki. America became an empire controlling much of the world economically and militarily and denigrating socialism as denying freedom. But socialism is freedom, people working together and supporting those less able.
Empires always collapse under the weight of personal greed, and this will happen to the US too. Be ready to build something better where people are equal and respected. Make America good again; respect each other, not oligarchs and riches.
@RickiTarr my thoughts are with all decent US citizens at this time. I am hoping you will take your country back and continue the struggle against the injustice and cruelty of the Trump regime.
