I do still believe there will be US elections in 26 and 28. How free and fair, who knows, but it's still very likely it will go very poorly for Republicans, same as it did in 18 and 20.

My fear is that we'll end up with the same do nothing neolibs that won in 18 and 20, sitting around with their thumbs up their assholes, more devoted to trying to return to the same exact bullshit that they did in the Obama years, because they haven't had a single new idea since fuckin Jimmy Carter.

We'll still have an extremist fascist supermajority on the SCOTUS, and they'll do nothing.

We'll still have an ICE with a hundred billion dollar budget because they are too spineless to actually gut DHS.

We'll still watch them fail to pass a voting rights act.

We'll still watch them refuse to do jack shit about Medicare for All, or quintupling the federal minimum wage, or actually encoding minority rights including abortion, LGBT, naturalized citizens, refugees, immigrants, Black, non-native English speakers, etc. into law, or better still the Constitution.

We'll still watch them bend over backwards for billionaires and refuse to actually regulate jack shit - just continue to hand out trillions and ask politely for them to be nice

We'll still watch them send billions to nations committing genocide.

We'll watch as they decline to do anything to prevent another Trump, and we'll be right back here all over again in 2032. And basically every 4-8 years forever.

@JessTheUnstill
Realistically you are probably correct. It's been a pendulum swing like that for generations at this point. It's why the current dems do absolutely nothing, they are resting on their laurels because it will mean big wins for them in the next election. On the other hand the momentum that is currently behind Mamdani in NYC will hopefully spread to other young people looking to represent their communities.

The only way we make it out of this is if we primary them all.

@itsVague @JessTheUnstill as long as Mamdani isn't stripped of his citizenship.

Honestly, I think Trump trying to strip citizenship from Mamdani would be the BEST possible outcome! It would launch him into nationwide popular discourse as the young attractive very smart New York Mayor candidate who Trump wants to deport for no reason. Give him a nationwide platform to show his policies he wants to implement, etc. He/his donors can afford the best legal counsel money can buy.

That's the kind of PR bonanza that no amount of money could ever possibly buy.

@JessTheUnstill @itsVague as long as he isn't disappeared in the middle of the night.
@Darkphoenix @JessTheUnstill @itsVague Exactly. All the PR in the world won't help if you're shoved into the back of a van blindfolded at 2:00am
