Stickers! At #teardown2025 @clomads and I coerced a bunch of people into buying a $10 thermal label printer, and now I have a repo up for the sticker designs I was giving out, plus tips and tricks for using the printer, plus links to fun holographic and glittery sticker stock. Thanks to Chloe for enabling me with the printer in the first place! Enjoy! https://github.com/AlpenglowIndustries/Stickers
@clomads I think the most delightful thing was the Saturday night shenanigans, when I went on a tear and surprised people by giving them 5 stickers of their face. 😆
@alpenglow @clomads I’d no idea they worked with shiny stickers… this changes _everything_
@tonyp @clomads muuuuuuahahaaha! Note the caveats in the repo's readme - sometimes mine would freak out and just jettison labels instead of calibrating, and it would need a little time-out. But overall, considering the price of these printers and that they're so small and portable, I'm willing to deal with a little bit of fussiness. It def had an easier time with the pink and plain holo labels, the glittery ones were sometimes more of an issue.
@alpenglow @tonyp @clomads These look amazing and JUST what I need. How well do the stickers hold up over time - does the printing fade over time like a thermal receipt?
@makerblock @alpenglow @tonyp I just checked two of my testers: one outside in the desert sun, and one in my car on the dash. Both the silver holo round ones. The dash one is fading a bit and the other one looks a little dull but not fading yet. ~ 2 months

SOLD. This is *exactly* the solution I've been looking for. I wanted to be able to insert QR codes to things into my maker notebook so I can reference digital resources as I'm scribbling notes.

My other solutions were all very non-optimal - but this should be perfect! Thank you all!

@clomads @alpenglow @tonyp FWIW, my other ideas:

RFID stickers - work well, but more than 2-3 in one notebook interfere with each other

Printing QR codes on paper wasted a whole sheet + required cutting/gluing/tape

Tried using my laserprinting to print onto masking tape (didn't work, smudged) and packing tape (didn't work, melted) and scotch tape (worked!) were enough of a hassle that I rarely did it

Plus, I like making stickers :)

@makerblock Stickers inherently make things more fun. Glad you’re onboard the sticker train!!!
