Question for the fediverse: can going off a med and back onto it change how your body reacts to it?
Context: I have been on Cymbalta for several years, and this past winter I tried stepping off of it - then with side effects to stopping ended up stepping back up to my previous dose. I’ve been back up for about four months now and this summer I am having serious issues with heat intolerance. This is new, and trying to figure out if it’s med related or just the newest annoyance from my POTS?

@RavynWitch we don't truly know how these drugs work as while we know they are reuptake inhibitors how you scale the receptor to how they change how you feel is just a whole level of unknown (though we do know they work)

So yeah I think it's reasonable to assume that a break might adjust your receptors and so possibly give different effects (though also some may have exactly the same response/side effects)

@smallsolar okay, so hypothetically do we think going off and back on another time would change them again?
@RavynWitch sorry to say I don't know, i suspect a health professional wouldn't recommend it as you have the med for a reason so on/off has associated risks in itself (withdrawal etc) but fedi isn't the place to find out 😃
@smallsolar I promise I will talk to the doctor who prescribed the med before I do anything too exciting, but I don’t see him til next month so I’m crowd-sourcing in the meantime.
@RavynWitch thermoregulation can be an issue with duloxetine so depending on the reasons to take it perhaps there is an alternative within the same class that will just have a slight difference but enough to avoid that particular side effect
