Ok techy mastodon folks: what say you for a laptop not for me. Will mostly be running occasional office, spl voice tracker. No heavy gaming and no sight for the person to freak about graphics etc. is an idea pad a regular laptop or tablet? Trying to pay a decent affordable price and get something that will last and dell has proven to be awful and will not purchase. Thoughts on this one from a tech mind? Negativity about windows neither welcome or helpful. I’m just trying to make a purchase choice here. lol. Will likely be running NVDA for screen reader. https://amzn.to/3Te16td

@amy0223 I'm curious why you're swearing off Dell? Not criticizing the choice at all, but just trying to get context. Full disclosure: both my machines are Dell and I've had 0 problems with them but that's not the conversation I want to have with you.
@amy0223 Oh yeah that’s an excellent laptop for what you want to do. Absolutely excellent, and a great price.
@amy0223 I always suggest Thinkpads when and where possible. well built machines not much bloatwear and I like the designs personally.
@tjolsen @amy0223 I had a lenovo from 2009 to 2015 or so that worked great. I personally am saving up for a semi maxed out framework 13 but Lenovo or even Asus would probably be my next choice. Too many issues with Del working with clients who received them from rehab agencies, speakers dying for no reason, major bluetooth delays ETC.
@jpellis2008 @amy0223 Dell can go all the way to hell as far as I'm concerned. I was given one that was someone's former work machine and it's been a nightmare to get usable

@blindbat84 @amy0223 There are a lot of good reasons to consider a refurbished business grade machine over a new consumer grade machine. I saw this video once and it actually closely summarizes my own thoughts on the situation: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NzRehSFWuKo
Why a Used Business Laptop is Better than a NEW Consumer Laptop (For Most People)

@alpuzz @blindbat84 Well I’m confused as this machine I shared says business laptop. Do you have something to read on this view? Or an explanation? This video for me is unwatchable. Almost five minutes in and he’s still chosen to not get to the point so I can’t watch. I suck at YouTube, keynotes, etc. I hate needless ego stroking for attention. So if I’m viewing content claiming to be on a useful topic and they don’t choose to get to their point quickly my attention and interest are gone. Is there a better source for such things than Amazon? They only sell refurbished anything with max battery capacity at 87 percent which is not acceptable to me. If I’m buying something refurbished I expect the inside to be like new; not like used. If I purchase a new laptop, phone, etc., I at least get a battery at max capacity. I expect this from a refurb as well.
@amy0223@mindly.social I really like the Asus Vivobooks. They're lightweight, have great battery life, and very nice keyboards. I'm not going to link to anything because there are so many out there, but they're very reasonable prices too.
