@tsvenson This is super exciting! Also the fact that they got some of the original Commodore team on board!
I couldn't imagine Commodore being in better hands. I just hope they are able to come up with the money seal the deal.
I feel the future is bright!
@JakobFel @tsvenson OMG!!! I loved Media Play. We had one in Tulsa back in the mid to late '90s and I have many fond memories of that place.
They were also one of the only big box stores that I ever saw the Philips CDI on display. I remember seeing the Zelda games there being really confused. 😂
Having said that, I fully support your dream! 👍
@Judeau @tsvenson Media Play is an experience that nothing can seem to come close to! Mine was in my area until the entire franchise went out of business and frankly, if not for that store, I wouldn't be half of what I am today, I'm not exaggerating! That place got me into so many foundational interests when I was a kid haha
Restoring it has been a dream of mine for about a decade and a half now. I'd assume it's significantly more challenging to revive than Commodore, though
@JakobFel I hear you! I think the only other store that came close for me was Hastings.
It had much the same idea but in a smaller footprint. Put everything under one roof. Books, video games, electronics, music, movies, collectibles etc.
Hastings managed to last around here until 2010ish when they finally closed up their locations as well.
Now all we have is Best Buy that's a shell of its former self. 😮💨
@Judeau I'm not familiar with Hastings, unfortunately. I had heard some people say Sam Goody (owned by MP's parent company) was somewhat similar but other than that, the only similar places near me were FYE and Best Buy, as you mentioned.
Nowadays, Best Buy is basically JUST electronics while FYE has degraded to being an overpriced anime collectibles store. It's absolutely depressing
