So... you're allowed to be disabled *right now* but if you happen to become so in the future then fuck you. This is fucking disgusting. Just absolutely no thought whatsoever to people's lives. People as things. Economic units, only consuming or producing, no room or support or compassion to be allowed to *live*.

I fucking hate the Labour party.

Government confirms welfare climbdown in deal with rebels

Cuts to some disability benefits will only hit future claimants, not those already on it.

Radical idea, what if you tried to run the country in the interests of the people who actually have to fucking live in it, rather than those who are intent on crowbarring every single penny out of our desperate, exhausted hands?

Rant incoming. One of the things that I think is most despicable about the toxic marriage of austerity and rampant capitalism is just how utterly and completely it has shaped the conversation towards what people can *produce*. People as economic units, like worker bees. We diligently gather stuff for ubercunts at the top to hoard like dragons, or set fire to in the futile hope of one day getting into space, or spend on pursuing fucking immortality (give me strength).

The cost of this is life.

Do I want disabled people to receive material support to help them work?

No. I want disabled people to receive material support to help them *live*. That is what I want for all of us.

For our society (which has so much - SO MUCH!) to use that abundance to materially improve our days. Not just patch up the parts of us that are broken then feed us back into the 'eternal growth' machine, but help us experience and enjoy life, build community, family, joy.

BE HUMAN.

I was just thinking this morning, if I was given enough money to really manage my illness it would create five jobs right out of the gate. I would hire:

Healthy food prep
Physio/massage
House cleaning
Social worker
Driver/errand buddy

Even if I personally continued to be fekkin useless with this extra help, it would be a HUGE employment stimulus. All while providing me with dignity and quality of life.

Trickle Down economics failed. Let's try Lift Up economics instead. 💪🧡

@vlrny That’s how you know the system is BS, because if I had access to something like UBI I’d spend more money on so many things that would improve my life and also improve others’ lives.
I’d pay people for body therapy and mental therapy. I’d buy more food, and pet supplies. I might even feel good enough to socialize outside of my home and spend money doing activities.
I would pay someone to tailor clothes and maybe I’d finally feel good in clothes.
I could pay artists for their beautiful creations. I could support people in need who could then do the same for others.

Imagine what so many of us could do with the right support?
