Oh cool, and we just de facto banned LGBTQ content in schools, nationally. Incredible.
(It's hard to explain but the concept is very simple. By offering a religious opt-out to parents, SCOTUS is setting up a situation where they know the bureaucratic response is going to be to just not teach those materials; since that is way easier and cheaper than developing an opt-out system for every fundie parent in the district. The American education system does not have spare money to spend on "doing the right thing." They will just ban the books, officially or unofficially.)
(and btw, cis het folks, do not kid yourself that this isn't going to affect you because you'd be surprised at what VERY POLITICAL things Christians consider against their religion and will likely try to expand this ruling to encompass. If you want to know how we get to the end of a road where your teachers are teaching your kids that evolution is a controversial theory and dinosaurs might be a hoax, this is how you start that process.)

@AnarchoNinaWrites
It's going to almost immediately take evolution.

History is probably going to be next, since a lot of schools teach it under social science.

But don't neglect that they explicitly talked about gay marriage and indoctrination in the decision. They are 100% going to go after marriage shortly.

@Oggie I’m actually surprised that we didn’t have Obergefell or Loving overturned this year. It’s wild to just live year by year seeing if your rights evaporate

@danirabbit
In my opinion- not a chance Obergefell lasts the year. Loving will probably survive till 2026, but be on the docket and removed before this time next year.

Not to dive too deep here, but the fact is trans scapegoating has served the crazy right for a while, soon they are going to need a more populous target, and 'queers' and 'degenerates' (watch for that language) can 'hide amongst normal people' so need to be 'rooted out'.

Mix of HUAC and mid 1930s germany, 'enemy within'.
