What should I call my printed magazine project containing listings of web games/apps for people to type in?
Best I've got so far is "alert()", has a bit of a dynamic feel, but also considering every HTML tag etc
(every obvious option has some kind of existing publication using that term, but I'd like to avoid big clashes with anything computery)
And to make it clear: yes, it'll literally be a printed magazine available to buy containing HTML listings, a ridiculous modern day version of early '80s computer listings mags
Already got a few programs that work really nicely & aren't too long, hoping for around 10

@Edent By the way, if you'd like to contribute please do let me know, just needs to be something fun/interesting that's a totally self-contained single page (already got a nice original puzzle, Markov chain trainer/querier, & tiny Asteroids game)
@mattround I'll have a think.
The last time I wrote a game from scratch it was a Wumpus hunt in Prologue 🙃
@Edent Ha! Doesn't have to be a game and can be really tiny/simple
@mattround ok. Built something nifty.
Do you want it minified to make it extra hard to type in?
@Edent No, unless the code is a massive spoiler for the game; as long as you're happy it works OK then I can do any code formatting (at least one contribution will be heavily minified as original version was for a 1k contest, but most will be vaguely legible)
Feel free to email volewtf at gmail or message a link!

@mattround Something with <pre> maybe as it will be full of codeblocks?

Maybe:

<pre>sent

(as you’ll send the <pre>s through the post?)

@nclm Yeah <pre> has been high on the list after trawling through list of tags, along with <marquee> (as it's so retro but still works)
@mattround @nclm I was about to suggest <marquee>

@mattround
"Key-In"
"Webstruction"
"U-Type"

Awesome idea, BTW!

@mattround View Source seems like the obvious name to me, and I love the idea. I remember typing PET listing in and having to learn how to type the PETSCII magic characters for clear screen (reversed heart) etc. I imagine the modern challenge would be typing emoji
@KevinMarks Definitely making sure there's no non-ASCII stuff in the listings!

@mattround

Something playing with shuffling the words game, 'zine, magazine?
The Amazing Game'zine? (or Game-a-zine?)

@mattround To me, it is important to have a project that is searchable and while alert is very good, I imagine it will be difficult to find via search
@ophanimkei None of the relevant names are good for search as they’re web-related, and pretty much all have been used for mags in some way, would have to misspell something to improve that, it’s tricky
@mattround i think combining words is ideal for this (ie having some kind of subtitle that allows it to be searched). having one main title is good that u use for logos, but having the magazine be completely unsearchable would be rather unfortunate because if people talk about it but don't remember your username, they may not be able to find it easily.
