deadname but it's the cringe online username you had as a young teen and thought you'd eradicated and then you get a random mail from a site you forgot existed to an email address you're surprised even gets forwarded anymore

@darkphoenix Oooof! We feel this 🄺

It's why we made guides here and Reddit once we found out that it was possible to update your Steam login name.

Our former username was very cringe šŸ˜–

@SleepyCatten @darkphoenix I was told to use my full legal name when I made my steam account, because nicknames will feel like cringe at some point

.. guess which name is still relevant.

@littlefox @SleepyCatten yea I mean tbf the nickname I got very shortly after eradicating the cringe has still stuck, and kinda functioned as a stand in when I was between names (not a fan of the old, didn't yet have a new)
@darkphoenix @SleepyCatten back then I already had the very nickname I still have here before the @ ^^

@littlefox Oooof! Have you tried to change it using our guide?

@darkphoenix

@SleepyCatten @darkphoenix yes yes, it's changed for quite some years already - not sure if we randomly stumbled over your guide back then tho
@SleepyCatten IT IS???

@tev Yep. We'll link to the guides we've made. Both have the same title (Steam Support do make exceptions and allow you to update your Steam account name (login) for trans/non-binary folks).

We wrote the Reddit guide first. We did the post here as screenshots, since the post was written back when our server was still on Mastodon with a 500 character limit.

@darkphoenix i was once called bajek and it fricking means fairy tales in polish... I have no idea why i choose that...
@Albi @darkphoenix but that meaning is nice and for non-Polish speakers it also seems a nice combination of letters. I am puzzled about what would and would not considered 'cringe' per individual.
@darkphoenix my first email address was da_duderules <at> hotmail <dot> com

(AFAIK it's defunct now, Microsoft won't let me use it as a login ID)
@darkphoenix my uncle mocked me mercilessly for it.

@darkphoenix šŸ˜…

for me it's "aragorn", such edge 😁 (in my defense, it was before the movies)

there's certain games i had to abandon the account because the username has my deadname on it. imagine losing progress because of dysphoria (mecore)
@darkphoenix i hate when platforms lock username changes behind a paywall

looking at you, roblox and xbox
(although at least xbox lets you change it once for free)
Stop subposting me /j
@darkphoenix well so long as it's not your Steam username

@darkphoenix Been thinking really hard and I cannot think of a single username that I would consider cringe. Not for me or others. You either have a weeb name, a fictional/mythological character name, a cutesy food or word combo, a title or sentence or the tumblr classic of the obscene. That's all pretty fun to me.

(Using your real name is just privacy trouble but not cringe per se. Using your birthyear at the back is also nostalgic)
