I haven’t been paying attention to David Roche’s #wser training, but saw iRunFar had an interview as part of this year’s coverage. Is he actually expected to be a contender?

Because of his scientific method and his win at Leadville he is treated as a contender. It will be interesting to see how this works against far more acomplished runners. It makes an interesting storyline for sure.
@trustedsystem.bsky.social In his iRunFar pre-race interview, he suggested he might be minutes off the men’s CR. I’m having a hard time believing it’s anything more than hype considering his lack of experience at the distance. I should probably go see if Mr States himself, Andy Jones-Wilkins, has anything to say on Roche.

@trustedsystem.bsky.social Thank you for digging up the article before I had a chance to!

I don’t think Roche brags. He is very confident, though, and a little full of himself based on personal dealings I’ve had with him.

But I respect AJW’s take, given his understanding of course and past performances.

@trustedsystem.bsky.social @Runningpunk Wait, what, AJW is talking about Western States? Really?

@amerpie @trustedsystem.bsky.social How is TRN these days? Haven’t checked-in on them for a few years.

Did AJW at least talk about Cocodona 250 finish? How many IPAs has he cracked open during the taping?

@Runningpunk @trustedsystem.bsky.social I’m in the middle of the episode, but he’s previously said he is one and done for the 250. TRN is one of our regular listen. Those guys have been at it for 15 years.
@amerpie @trustedsystem.bsky.social Oh yeah, was a faithful listener from the early, early years. Back when there was a sporadic third host, who did tri’s, too. (Is that right?) Buddy even had a “RUN MAS” vanity plate.
