Hello Fedi friends!

My decision to upload the Fedi promo video to YouTube 2 weeks ago was really controversial.

@randahl posted a nice message about the video & encouraged his followers to like / comment on it so the YouTube algorithm would serve it to more people. He was inundated by hostile comments for days. Sorry Randahl!

Well, exhibit A of why this was a good decision in hindsight (see pic).

How else are people going to hear about the Fediverse?

That's so disappointing to hear. Sorry you had a bad experience.

No one should be attacking you for raising awareness for the open social web outside of its current shape. Like you said, how else would we grow this space?

We've experienced similar things in the past, so if you ever want advise (or to rant), the Newsmast team will always be a happy ear.

@newsmast @randahl aw thank you! I didn't mind, I just felt bad for Randahl who was on the receiving end of so much vitriol.

The worst is that people kept saying "why isn't this video on PeerTube" and after 20 times of replying all in caps IT PREMIERED ON MY SELF-HOSTED PEERTUBE, I sort of gave up 😅

@_elena you should be able to "pin" a comment on YT. This way you could highlight your comment explaining something asked often or the one with the PeerTube-link.

Or is this feature also only available after verification?

I got a message from YouTube saying that in order to enable links I need to send them my picture ID. I didn't want to do that. But I'll try pinning some comments - didn't know about this 😅

@_elena Yeah, I read about the ID bs earlier. That`s why I suggested pinning. Hopefully it works, otherwise ppl just have to scroll a little. Shouldn't be that hard. 😁
