Kevin Kofler withdrew his #Fedora 43 change proposal[1] which proposed switching from the #Xorg Xserver to #X11libre:

To quote: "Considering the overwhelmingly negative feedback, **I am hereby withdrawing
this Change proposal**.

The reasoning is twofold: […]"

@knurd42 haha well played kevin

@lkundrak yeah

Thing is: maybe this and the "drop i686 support" proposal mean that something in the change proposal process might need to be adjusted, as the net (media, reddit, hackernews, ...) often forget that any Fedora contributor can submit such a proposal – and that those are sometimes just vehicles to discuss something and not concrete plans yet.

@knurd42

Last time we had this discussion @funnelfiasco added a disclaimer to every single Change page which says:

"This document represents a proposed Change. As part of the Changes process, proposals are publicly announced in order to receive community feedback. This proposal will only be implemented if approved by the Fedora Engineering Steering Committee."

And I think at least Phoronix became much more reasonable when reporting Fedora news since then. 1/

Still Fedora Change process seems to be constant source of misinterpretation by people less familiar to Fedora.

I think it is not the change themselves, but the fact that corporate-sponsored distribution is still being made and driven by the community via open public process, is what really makes people stumble.

@lkundrak

@bookwar @funnelfiasco @lkundrak +1 -- and don't forget the "controversy is fuel for media, social media, et. al." aspect. And I'd there "There's no such thing as bad publicity" holds up here.
