🔍 Unseen Stories in the Soil
Angela Trentacoste and her team are once again leading the environmental program—collecting tiny but vital traces of ancient life. From carbonized seeds and charcoal to animal bones and even a dormouse tooth, these small finds offer big insights into past foodways and environments.
Some of this season’s contexts are remarkably early or well-preserved, including ancient floors and drain fills with trapped biological remains. Once the samples are processed, they'll be studied under the microscope back at the BSR to help reconstruct diet and environmental exploitation across the centuries—from the Roman Republic to the Middle Ages.
