Good morning. 🐦🐦🐦

25 June 2025

For some reason, I woke up at five this morning. It’s quiet—so quiet that even my border collie, Charlie, went back to bed, I think. He’s not in here. Sunrise is still half an hour away. The days are growing shorter now; little by little, the sun lingers in sleep just a bit longer each morning. I usually wait for the ambient light to slip through the windows before I stir, but here I am, alone with my thoughts. Once again, I find myself wondering: Why am I up?

I think, my dog, Ben was in my dreams last night. You know he passed a few weeks ago. He used to wake me at these impossible hours, long before the birds thought to sing. I don’t believe in the supernatural, but if I did—maybe he came to say goodbye.

@Swede1952 We had a Boxer when I was a kid. We had good adventures in the fields of the Midwest. He died after I had grown up & moved a state away. I came home to see him again when Mom called to say he was sick and not going to make it. He gave me his usual wag, but I could see how it was. The next time I visited home, he was gone, and I was standing at the sink doing dishes. I swear I heard his distinctive bark outside the door. I'm a skeptic, but have experienced things I can't explain.
Our departed pets are forever in our hearts and so they are forever in our dreams

I’m sorry to hear about Ben. I don’t really believe in the supernatural but it is easy to believe that an animal that specialises in providing comfort throughout their lives would find a way to provide it one more time.
