What to do? I have an old 4Tb hard drive. macOS system report shows it in the USB tree. Disk Utility does not show it. #macos #apple #lazytoot
@jongary Recent OS? I remember having to fiddle around to get Disk Utility to show a disk that was formatted ext4 a few weeks back. Don’t remember the steps, but after I unmounted it, then Disk Utility behaved better.
@davepolaschek it’s hfs-something on a guid pt.
@jongary Yeah. After I fiddled with Disk Utility for a while, it offered to repair, and then when I said no, I could finally reformat the disk, but there was no indication it was checking the disk other than a blinking drive light.
@davepolaschek well, I want the data. The hardware doesn’t matter.

@jongary Yeah. I was the other way.

The disk isn’t plain HFS, is it? With support for that gone, HFS disks behave like what you described.

@davepolaschek nah. it’s gotta be HFS+.
