the Schmitt trigger, the one used in basically all digital electronics, is inspired by a biological object? More specifically, _the_ squid giant axon?? I can't believe I'm only learning this now despite hearing a lot of things about Schmitt triggers _and_ squid giant axons!

@whitequark I actually don't know of a single electronic component that isn't just a copy of nature on some level, humans are innovative in the sense that we take inspiration from what is around us and jam it into new shit to see if it works, and not much else lol
@froge there are similarities between systems everywhere, but citing something specific as a direct inspiration is different
