Your friendly neighborhood tech frog, here to explore society and complex systems together. My personal views are obscure and will probably be grating to most people, but we don't have to agree to be friends!

Will often discuss things like distributed systems, programming, society, and computer security. Politics WILL come up sometimes. Video games are cool too

I do serious research in between memes I swear, follow for fun computer adventures, and help build a better society together!!

Are y'all following Mat Duggan? Cause you should totally be following @matdevdug

He wrote this and it made me laugh out loud. Granted, I'm an easy target for a geeky laugh, but still...so are most of you. That's just one of the reasons I love you.

Boy I was wrong about the Fediverse

I have never been an "online community first" person. The internet is how I stay in touch with people I met in real life. I'm not a "tweet comments at celebrities" guy. I was never funny enough to be the funniest person on Twitter. So when Twitter was accidentally purchased

today I have decided to simply stop using services that block me instead of rotating IP address 15 times until one of them works

I wish every badly built company network a very routing error that triggers corporate downtime today

chatting with a friend about how Iran carefully targeted AWS in *all three geographically separated AZs* to take out a whole region, and i wrote:

did a whole redundancy plan for BMJ for a coupla months. It was pretty good! We got as far as multi-AZ. I sketched out plans for multi-region (which is not really different as long as you're inside AWS structurally, tho byte charges across regions will kill you) and discovered that ~nobody *actually* does multi-cloud yet, they're too different once you get beyond "we need terraformable Ubuntu boxes" or "we need k8s with a pile of arbitrary Docker images".

that I have 25 years in sysadmin and can write all that having actually done all that and *still* can't find a new job in tech tells you a bit about the state of tech employment right now

After laying off 30,000 corporate employees over the past six months, Amazon has realized the AI replacing jobs narrative is bad optics.

I expect to see more active counter positioning against AI as a job killer as opposition to datacenters and AI adoption increases.
