Ukrainian signal gets EU citizenship 🇺🇦📶🇪🇺

We are proposing to integrate Ukraine into the EU Roaming area starting January 2026.

Because staying connected — across the EU and back home — shouldn’t come at a cost.

Once more, we stand with Ukraine. Every step of the way.

@EUCommission For others reading this - no connection to Signal, the messaging solution :)

@EUCommission And good job mentioning January 2026 right away in the initial message.

Quoting from the page:

"The Commission has sent the proposal adopted today to the Council for its approval. According to it, Ukraine would effectively join the EU ‘Roam like at Home' area on 1 January 2026. This will allow both the EU and Ukrainian operators to technically implement the ‘Roam like at Home' requirements in the meantime."

@EUCommission Ukraine should be allowed to join the EU as quickly as possible. It's place is with the rest of Europe.

@stfn @EUCommission

It is, and I believe this will be done at some point

But given it's history, I do think it's wise to see how they function after the war ends. One of the main reasons they were not included earlier was massive amounts of political corruption...

But it looks promising so far! They've thrown out a lot of trash, and I hope this sets a new standard for how future politicians will be treated.

@baardhaveland @EUCommission indeed, let us hope Ukraine will rise stronger and wiser from this conflict.
@EUCommission @EUCommission
This is good news!
@EUCommission You know what would also help? To actually stop buying gas from Russia which foots the war bill :)
