friend is putting up a party in hawaii and says the permit they have states the sound limit is 200dB, so if you guys on the west coast hear the echo of "EVERYBODY DANCE NOW" over the waves and the rumble of hawaii disappearing from the map, that's probably why
@miunau Have some wicked distortion that loud as 200dBSPL is something like 2atm amplitude.
@miunau https://youtu.be/zAe9qvC49qY Torque Test Channel tested out some air horns they could use - 600dB!

@ketmorco @miunau using "600 dB" alone proves they have positively no idea what they're talking about.
The power of a single red photon hitting something a surface once per hour is roughly 9·10⁻²³ W. That's darker than you'll find anywhere on earth, including the darkest corners of Moria. It's also much less power than a 0 dBSPL (or weighted version of that) speaker emits.

600 dB of that are 9·10³⁷ W. All stars in our galaxy combined emit about 1/10 as much power.

@miunau it's hard to get good sound quality when the atmosphere is clipping.
@miunau what the fuck isn't it already bad for your ears a bit over 100? and db is a logarithmic scale so 200 is way more than twice as loud
@luna @miunau yes. You need earplugs when attending a concert because 120 is on the quiet end of concerts.
@luna @miunau yes, "ten billion times as much sound power" is indeed way more than "twice"; in the same sense as that "a large drop of water" fits way more than twice into the panama channel ^^"

@miunau

NGL this sounds like a great time.

I will listen for it, hope your friend points the sound system eastward over the water and slightly up becuase the poor whales, we don't want to create a beaching incident

@miunau oh, 200dB is not enough to sink Hawaii, the permit office wouldn't be unreasonable, of course. It's basically just a permit to launch a Saturn V. All the great parties involve fireworks, right?

Gotta love permits.

@miunau thats freaking impressive
