@jon I thought this when I had to show my passport AND aufenthaltstitel as I passed through Strasbourg towards Stuttgart yesterday.
@fuzztech Yes. Same for me there last week. At Kehl it’s ridiculously strict for some reason. There’s no logic to all of this.
@jon Related, It seems that they have cut back on the passport checks and searches (which were done on every trip from about 2021) on board the RE5 regional Bahn at Freilassing (first station in Germany on the Salzburg to Munich route). But driving on the A8 highway from Salzburg toward Munich has a semi-permanent checkpoint to get from Austria into Germany (not the reverse) for the past three years. I’ve only been asked once in that time to proffer my passport, but every time one drives through one must slow down and prepare for a search.
