Padilla's assault & handcuffing is getting all the attention, but what Noem said is perhaps more terrifying.

"We are not going away. We are staying here to liberate the city from the socialists and the burdensome leadership that this governor and that this mayor have placed on this country and what they have tried to insert into the city."

Admitting they're not here for violent criminals, they're here to overthrow our elected officials

@SrRochardBunson
I'm not from there, or a constitutional expert, but isn't that what the second amendment is about?
@midgephoto The 2nd was about wearing a wife-beater, and driving a pickup, wasn't it? @SrRochardBunson

@Tooden @midgephoto @SrRochardBunson

No, it is most certainly not.

Disabled elder here. The troubles that come from gun culture are *far* outweighed by the benefits. Guns make us equal. Without guns, the old, the weak, the small and the disabled are at the mercy of the the young, the strong, the big and the able-bodied.

@LevZadov Sorry. I should have added the /s.
Gun culture has been around for as long as guns have existed. Seems to me that in the past 13 years, the need for weapons has been fed by deniers of Sandy Hook, devolving into hysterical amassing of private arsenals. Waco didn't even engender the same hysteria.

Still not an equalizer by any means. Just means that reflexes matter more than strength.

Us oldies are still gonna be at a disadvantage.

I'd rate my chances of survival much higher if neither me nor my attacker have guns, than if we both do!

@LevZadov @Tooden @midgephoto @SrRochardBunson

@LevZadov @Tooden @midgephoto @SrRochardBunson The young, the small, the weak, etc are only safer if the ownership of guns, their storage and the sale and storage of ammunition are strictly controlled - compare the USA and Switzerland for proof.

@LevZadov @Tooden @SrRochardBunson

As I wrote, I'm not from there, but I understood the 2nd Amendment to be an expression of the need felt by the States to be able to resist a federal government should it overstep, and try to recreate a monarchy of the sort some of them had revolted to escape.

(Some: they'd all escaped, but some of them wanted to evade copyright royalties or taxes and routes on trade, and no doubt others had their own aims.)
