When you try to create user interfaces where you don't have distinct and hard separations for compartmentalization, you end up with weird stuff like this. Notice how the horizontal scroll bar is above the Now Playing controls.

Don't try to be too clever where you UI just starts to fall apart.

@marioguzman oh my god that scroll bar is “small town government records website from 2004” levels of bad UI design
@marioguzman it might be time to take that mini player and give it the full media player treatment
@czeins sure... which one of these designs I have do you like? This was my own jukebox back in the day.
@marioguzman Oh wow!!! They're all so good 😍
@marioguzman @czeins omg that reminds me when Xcode was inspired by iTunes to add the little yellow-tinted Now Playing / Status Box… what did they call it? I think there was a name specifically for it.
@j4ck @czeins I've only seen it called the "LCD display" but only in context of iTunes.
@marioguzman @j4ck Whoa. Never seen that
@czeins @j4ck The music miniplayer/widget apps is what ultimately became of that music app I posted above. A lot of the same drawing code...
@marioguzman this Music app looks hideous! looks more like a playground then an actual product.

@marioguzman

I detest the way every music player calls every track a song.

@Walrus Same. I've meticulously curated my Music library with the Grouping tag. Song, score, instrumental, diegetic, explicit, live, etc...

@marcintosh

I really wish I had done things like that from the start, but now we have 330 Gbytes of music, it's a bit of a challenge.

@Walrus I probably only have 50-ish GB, but I understand. "One bite at a time."
@marioguzman @siracusa i wonder what goes on sinde Dye's head roght now. Is he getting cold feet? Is he panicking and second guessing? Will he revert most of this or will he just make some adjustments but stick to the redesign? i hope he wont stick with it. the more i look st the more i hate it. its gonna look dated very fast. in fact i think it already looks dated and tacky.
@marioguzman I’m very excited about the new version ios operating system

@marioguzman

I'm more annoyed by the variations in margins of what I consider the main content. Also the close, maximize and minimize are part of a control instead of the window.

Honestly, this ain't pretty. The individual parts are good, but the combination is bad.

@marioguzman @siracusa If M.C. Escher designed a user interface.
@marioguzman Putting the player controls over the contents frees up so much space at the top. Must be a crack design team.
@marioguzman WOW just ran across this screenshot, firs time i'm seeing the menu bar completely transparent. hate that
@marioguzman @siracusa Federighi's design-babble rationalizations for Liquid Glass just didn't land with me. I struggle to see any real benefit that outweighs the myriad micro-aggressions it brings. I suppose the horizontal scrollbar belongs below the controls? It just feels gross though.
@marioguzman from memory, Songs is the only view that scrolls horizontally, right?
@marioguzman they sadly probably don’t even want that view to exist anymore even though it’s the only functional and useful view left in the app.

@marioguzman @siracusa Steve Jobs ones said: “they absolutely have no taste” …
Yes I know, he was talking about MS back then - but now I’m not so sure anymore 🫣

Please what a piece of Non-Design is that in your screenshot? Almost nothing fits. Padding, color, lines, colors, everything is weirdly off

@marioguzman Looks like they haven’t finished iTunes yet. I guess they’ve still got 3 months to get to it.
