Over the last five years, I’ve also learned that bad UI is often intentional. Anything that can be monetized or criticized becomes a kind of currency. If people keep talking, reacting, and chasing quick dopamine hits, it’s a business win.
The older I get both in age and in my experience as a designer, the more I value functional UI over aesthetic UI. Is the interface self-explanatory? Does it help me solve a problem? If both answers are yes, then it’s good UI. I’m no longer a fan of overly simplified, overly animated, or over-polished interfaces.
I don't get selfies on LinkedIn. You're explaining why your last business meeting was a success. That's great Karen, but I don't need to see your Instagrammed face.
Social media in general feels like a dystopian reality. At least that’s how I see it.
Left X bc it turned into a place for the extreme right and content farming.
Left Substack bc looks nice on the surface, but everyone’s just chasing subscriber counts.
Recently left LinkedIn... can’t fathom how AI generated content farming became the norm.
Still keeping Instagram. Ironically, its privacy settings seem solid.
And keeping Mastodon too bc y'all are really nice.
