As one of the new mod-members of the Fosstodon team, I am curios about your claim David.

Yes I am aware that at least one instance keeps threatening to block us. But I have not seen anything that indicates support for your claim as it being "widely."

So I would be most grateful if you can point me to trustworthy sources, as it would really help me understand our situation better.

If someone is on a server that is defederated, can they still migrate to a federated server? Or do they have to start from scratch on a new server?

@EFreethought @davidgerard @libreoffice @tdforg Once defederated, those two instances do no longer talk, so no, migration to a defederated instance is not directly possible.
You could then try and find an intermediary, eg. migrate to a third party which federates with both instances, but no guarantees

@opiate @libreoffice @tdforg they keep bringing on alt-right mods, over and over, and not understanding that others don't really want to just put up with that when they could not.

so a lot of servers have put fosstodon on limited and if they don't shape up in the month a whole lot of defederation is about to happen

remember, fosstodon is the server that put in a firm English-only posting requirement then kicked a poster for writing in Irish. which is clearly completely incompatible with LibreOffice already. tho fosstodon did walk that one back after the massive backlash that obviously followed.

@nshiell Well, that depends on what you mean by "new". The @libodesign team created the tabbed user interface a couple of years ago and is working on improvements. Or do you mean something else?

@libreoffice @tdforg I made that switch in ~2014, and I've had no use for Microsoft Office ever since.

My employer, on the other hand, is still using the full MS Office suite, and it makes me wonder how much HIPAA-protected patient information we're feeding into the AI slop machine.
