Everyone probably knew this but me, but you can absolutely pair a Switch 1 Pro Controller with a Switch 2.

You naturally lose out on the chat button and headphone jack, but in terms of gameplay, everything works fine.

@caseyliss so far it’s been my preferred way to play, but as far as I can tell it can’t wake the Switch 2 from sleep.
@tom @caseyliss yes this is an official limitation due to a change in hardware design. Switch one doesn’t wake up via the Bluetooth signal
@caseyliss For some reason I was thinking they weren’t compatible and bought a new one. Not a huge deal as now I have an extra for couch co-op play with the nephews.
@caseyliss can you wake up your Switch 2 using it though? I can’t using mine, which is annoying. The back buttons would’ve been useful too - I love using them on the controllers like the Xbox Elite 2
@spitfire @caseyliss That’s a limitation of it. You can’t wake the console, so not just you.
@spitfire @caseyliss It won’t power the Switch 2 on.
@caseyliss I kinda wish I hadn’t known this, would have helped me justify buying a new one. $85 is a lot for just a few new features, and the only one I’d probably use is the grip buttons
@caseyliss I think Joy Cons from original Switch work as well, with obvious limitations of missing mouse mode for certain games.
@jontatum @caseyliss Yes you can! You can pair them Bluetooth, you just need a way to charge them.
@caseyliss You also can’t wake the console from sleep, which is a real bummer/Nintendo move. But I’m willing to deal with it to not spend another $90.
@caseyliss In a pinch you can even pair Switch 1 Joy-Cons with the Switch 2! But you can only charge them by reconnecting them to the Switch 1 (which also re-pairs them).
@connor_g @caseyliss and Switch 1 devices won't wake the Switch 2 with a double tap of the home button :/
@caseyliss I did not know this! I don’t care a lick about either new feature, so I’ll be happy to save money reusing my existing ones. 🙏
@caseyliss and you can’t wake up the console … unfortunately
@caseyliss now I gotta try my ‘old' Pro controller.
@caseyliss I thought you also couldn’t turn the switch on with the controller. That felt like a dealbreaker to me so I ponied up for a new one
