You need to interact with people, solve problems, and then to produce documents to account for the way you’ve solved problems. That’s praxis 101.

And I agree with your message but I’d like to add that the insecurities you’re talking about probably directly stem from the web 2 – from thinking about producing documents before you think about the operation of interacting with people.
