Today is #RockinTuesday so here’s some fascinating rocks I’ve come across during my travels… 570 million year old Precambrian rock—mainly granite—form the mountains just outside of #Aqaba #Jordan The mountains are criss-crossed with layers of intruded igneous rock,
known as dykes, which form the characteristic (and visually stunning) dark stripes across the hillsides. My #TheCampfire story however is broader than just the rocks in this picture. You might notice litter in this photo 🤔 I absolutely loved my time in Israel and Jordan (2013), but
one of the things that I noticed was the amount of litter. In the city, on the roadside in the desert, on the beach in Tel Aviv. Everywhere. I’m not religious anymore, but I grew up Catholic, so the Holy Land was writ large in the stories of my youth. But to find the historical stage of such
spiritual activity to be strewn with garbage came as a solid dose of culture shock. Not only was it a clash of story vs reality, but also somewhat of an affront to my very western ecological sensibilities. That’s what travelling does: gives you a good healthy dose of reality check. ✅
