If you're aged 30 or more, then 50% of all human fossil fuel emissions happened during your lifetime
@infobeautiful The most frightening is 10 % for 5.
@infobeautiful NOW I feel old. Thanks. 👴🏻😳

@infobeautiful

Murder. Carbon fuels are murder.

@infobeautiful that line getting steeper and steeper as the age decreases is... Not great!

@infobeautiful looking at graphs of atmospheric levels of CO2 levels for when you were born vs now is equally depressing. I wonder what it would be like to have as breathable* air someone from 100 years ago

*Breathable as in how high of a CO2 gradient there is between fresh air and exhaled air for the exchange of O2 into / CO2 out of your body

@infobeautiful observe: the steps between 30, 25, 20, ..., 5 are growing not shrinking.

Thanks fossil fuel lobbyists 🙃

@infobeautiful Thanks for reminding me. I cried when I realized people were not ready to take action against climate change in 2000. It was 25 years from now.
@infobeautiful and at the rate we’re going, in another 30 years, for someone born today, more than 50% will have been emitted during their lifetime

@ShadSterling that's based on the (false) assumption that the planet will take the abuse without fighting back. It's gonna be a hell of a ride unfortunately, but human emissions are going down, probably the hard way. Natural emissions however will go up a lot... Not looking forward to the next decades.

@infobeautiful

@iwein @infobeautiful I used to think we’d have to stop sooner, but now I think I underestimated our determination to avoid change - in particular, for those of us who gain extreme short-term profits, and those who imagine that potential for themselves. We’re in the process of starting new extraction throughout the U.S., and sites further north are getting easier to drill. The rich can move to the arctic circle even as the tropics become uninhabitable

@ShadSterling interesting dystopic scenario, but in any case, once the permafrost peat melts, and the amoc stalls, our emissions will be negligible in comparison, right?

Anyway, not gonna dwell on things out of my control. Help a friend, plant a tree, punch a fascist, tax the rich. I can do that much at least.

don't forget a lot of states burned lead for severa' decades!

Leaded gasoline is finally gone – but its toxic legacy lingers

As of this week, lead has been phased out of all gasoline globally.
