One of the joys of #CampMather is being off the grid of a constantly online world. No cell service, no WiFi. For years, these phone booths in the woods were the only way to communicate off the mountain.
When the phone company stopped operating public pay phones, the Camp office installed alternative internal systems for staff to manage operational needs and emergencies.
#CampMather remains one of the few places San Franciscans truly can disconnect, literally freed from the temptation to be just half-present, distracted by our phones. 😌
