About 30 years ago, before the internet as we know it, a friend went way off the conspiracy deep end. UFOs, being followed by the FBI, lizard people, the whole bit.

Those pictures of Bill Clinton with aliens on the cover of National Enquirer at the supermarket checkout stand? They were in fact REAL. See, too many people were finding out the truth, so by putting those pictures on the cover of tabloids, it discredited those who saw through the government's coverup.

Airtight logic.

So, of course, the video showing a government official pulling his human skinsuit off to reveal the lizard person underneath is totally real. They just want you to *think* it's AI. This video is just another sophisticated op to discredit those who know the truth.

I was in one of my martial arts classes a couple of weeks ago and one of the students in the class was talking about exactly this. Their wife had been using a chatbot and had told it her exact birthdate and it came back with all this astrological and spiritual crap, and it was apparently, quoting the person in the class, "so exact and so accurate" that he became convinced. Then he started talking about the idea that the AI was sentient and it was going to save the world because it knew all of this spiritual stuff. So, yeah, ordinary people are getting sucked into this and believing that it is something special. It's like the new QAnon (to which I lost a partner in 2020). It is scary as hell to me!

It. Was. Excruciating.

They got radicalized by gamers on YouTube. it sounds corny as hell, but that was the onboarding, and there was no looking back.

I could no longer have actual conversations with them about anything real, and the therapist we were seeing to try to save our relationship completely skirted around the entire issue, allowing my partner to continue to have these absolutely delusional beliefs about the world.

I couldn't do anything either. It was like they died. I had no idea who they were anymore. There was this conspiracy-theory-believing stranger in my bed all of a sudden. It happened over just a few months, like a virulent cancer. It would've been better if they had died, honestly.
