Time to go home!

After an adventurous drive from Annecy to Geneva (the train connection is... not good, but we also forgot we need a vignette in Switzerland + the oil in the car was making trouble which I'm told is not good), it's time to board the first train that will bring me to Bern. This one is Swiss, so announced to be on time.

Someone lost a book on the train! #bookspotting

Shall I pick it up? [as in: is this a book you would recommend? I googled it an a honestly not sure.]

Picked up the book, now in the ICE from Bern to Berlin (isn't it cool, that there is a direct train?).

I should have had more trust in the Swiss - we had 3 min delay in between which made me nervous because the Bern connection was 8 min only, but we caught up with the schedule!

We caught up with the delay we got between Basel and Freiburg and arrived in Frankfurt right on time - so I had time enough to buy some classic German train station lunch (Dean & David has this flatbread since I was a student in Munich 😅).

Passing through Cologne soon, thinking of the lovely conversation (and cake! Yum!) with @drehumdiebolzen and also of Buchhandlung Bittner and all the books I got there last time...

However, the weather is also getting worse and we are about to pass through a real summer storm. Let's hope this does not lead to delays, I'd like to arrive at some point home, I'm missing my own bed and my own kitchen!

My original ticket was meant to a change in Utrecht, but there are no direcr trains from Utrecht to Leiden this weekend, so I am going via Amsterdam. 13 min delay at the moment means that I can only get the train that arrives in Leiden 31 min later than originally planned. Annoying, but given the overall length of the journey, it's a delay of less than 5%, so I've decided that it does not really count.

Got on my last train, almost home...

And home with a salad 🥗

This wasn't a very adventurous one, but while it may be boring to read, it was good to travel (and yes, there is a reason why I did not take the tgv. Called price. And changing stations in Paris. It was very much the right decision, I think).
