So I just got my driver's license translation back from the ADAC and my Oregon license is considered the equivalent of a German class C1 license.

I can drive light commercial vehicles in Germany.

This completely changes the game. I should be able to get a decent paying job, and soon!

@threetails You need an additional 14day course to be a commercial driver, but the Idea is great. There is huge demand.

@g_baer@chaos.social @threetails Yes and no.

Yes as in "safety training" but that's on the tap of the employer.

I.e. taxi and persons transport as well as loading safety. (i.e. using ratchet straps and security bars to enshure load doesn't shift)

But those are on the bill of said employers as they need to evidence that and those are part of their business expenses.

  • Needless to say a C1 class means everything up to a MGW of 7,5t with max. 8 passengers and at least 3 wheels is fair game. Including small boxtrucks, flatbed tow trucks (abeit no trailers exceeding an MGW 7,5t) and all the large vans >3,5t.

#NotLegalAdvice but will get that confirmed in writing and get that done.

  • OFC eye exam (done!) first aid course (to be done!) and theory exam (tbd!) and the fees associated are part of that as well, but still savings in the realm of €4,5k+ compared to a class B & class C1 permit from scratch, as I expect the costs to be <€500 max. (Class B estimate was in the ballpark of €250-ish)...
@kkarhan C1 should be up to 12t , but this can be different as it's converted. Still pretty cool.
@_g_baer_ @kkarhan Everything I read says 7.5t.
@threetails My mistake. 12t is the max sum for C1E, so 7,5t truck and 4,5t trailer.

@g_baer@chaos.social @threetails yes.

And unlike the "95" Annex there is a timer ticking for the C1 class...

  • Whereas the Annex 95 certification obviously comes after the fact.

Still two weeks to get certified should be in the cards easily. Espechally since any employer may offer said contract under the precondition of that certification being done ASAP, which given the shortage of drivers is not a matter if but who's gonna offer it first...

@g_baer@chaos.social @threetails all the other stuff like "drivers card" for the logger in trucks come after the license, and that one is just an appointment at the DMV with license, ID and photo and €40 as fee...
