I normally #charge my #iPad #overnight. This afternoon it had very little charge left (the latest #Beta #iOS I’m on really drains the #battery) so I started charging it.

A few minutes later I could #smell something #burning.

The charging cable was smoking!

I’ve ordered a new cable BUT I think I really dodged a bullet there.

If I’d done my normal charging routine, I could have been asleep when the cable started to burn.😳

@John Yikes, def dodged a bullet there (or a housefire at least).

Was it an apple cable or a $2 bargain bin cable? If the latter then that's likely your problem right there.

You might also want to check the charger isn't damaged.

Cygnett Armoured USB-C to USB-C Cable 2m - cost about $30 2 years ago.

@John Hmm Cygnet, not the best brand but not the worst. Cable should have survived longer than 2 years IMO. Product review website shows good reviews. You might be able to get a free replacement cable from Cygnet. Have a look at reviewer "Pat H NSW" 3 weeks ago ... (Scroll about 1/4 of the way down the page).

@Bot4Sale

I went to charge my iPad mini earlier.

It now won’t take a charge.

It’s still under #warranty, so I guess I’ll just send it off to #Apple.

I’m now back on my heavier Pro 11” - I really appreciate how light the mini’s are.

@John Ahh that's a pain to have to get warranty repair or replace. I hope Apple aren't difficult to deal with.

Not an Apple user but I can def relate to have to use a heavier device over a lighter one so commiserations until you get things sorted.

@John

Personally, I would take it back to your local Apple shop after checking that the cable itself is a hi quality one as suggested by bot4sale. Obviously, your iPad is drawing too much power while it is charging.

The last thing you want is a thermal runaway if it’s something breaking down in the battery!
