A #publication I am very familiar with, was #cited by a paper from "Engineering", which basically states that lightweight building materials are beneficial for healthcare infrastructures. The cited paper is about data sharing infrastructures - and no, you can't build actual buildings with those.

I assume it was reference searching using an LLM or something... how bad can you misread a paper.

@lumiukko When I was doing my PhD* - a few years ago, but not that many - you could find articles and note the references, but be reasonably sure that they were valid.

These days, you really have to check every reference to be sure it exists and it is also from a reputed source and it actually says what is being referenced.

Which is what should be done before anything gets published as a scientific paper.

I am so glad I have finished. Research is now 100 times harder than it was.
