#Ubuntu #laptop #advice
The screen on my laptop is dying and I probably need to replace it. Any recommendations for a cheap laptop that will play nicely with Ubuntu? I'm not gaming or anything exciting, and my laptop rarely leaves home so weight isn't a factor. I'm after decent storage and a laptop that will last.

I used to dual boot, but don't know whether that's still easy to set up what with all the device enshittification...

If anyone in the UK is selling laptops with Ubuntu pre-installed, even better...

@Knittingdancer

Or Fedora - even better still !

14 Places Where You Can Buy Linux Computers

Looking for Linux laptops? Here I list some online shops that sell Linux computers or specialize only in Linux systems.

It's FOSS
@Knittingdancer I'm interested in the answers to this too. One day I'd love to try framework machines. I'm pushing a Lenovo into its 2nd decade meanwhile. While I'm also a Ubuntu fan, check out their PopOS derivative, it's pretty cool. I flip between xfce and KDE, while PopOS is fast and ticks most of my boxes. (Yes, none of this helps answer your question, sorry!)

I don't have one but a lot of Linux users go for ex-corporate ThinkPads.
@Knittingdancer I've got a Dell (big beast of an ex-business laptop, bought to do everything the desktop used to) running dual-boot Lubuntu & Windows 10. I can't recommend the specific model, because it's possibly not upgradeable to Windows 11, but Dell as a manufacturer do cater to/support Linux to a certain extent. Everything works - mostly better in Lubuntu than in Windows - but I did have a moment where Linux saw the shared data partition as corrupt, and I had to ask Windows to fix it.
