In a moment of mild insanity I said I’d do a talk for the friends of the NLA on library tourism. Who has some traditional or non traditional library travelling highlights that want to share so I can steal them for my prezzo? great openly licenced photos also welcome
@Trishh You may be interested in @concretelibraries from librarian @timtom !
@copystar @concretelibraries @timtom I already follow them because absolutely 100% my jam!!!!!
@Trishh @copystar @timtom you’re welcome to all my photos, they’re all CC-BY anyway! Also I can chat about library tourism for days, as long as you don’t ask me about my favourite library.
@concretelibraries @copystar @timtom okay tell me about your second favourite library then. Also thank you!
@Trishh @copystar @timtom the one closer to me at any given time, obviously.
@concretelibraries @copystar @timtom (I reckon my favourite concrete library is the national library of Argentina. though Belconnen library in Canberra is also a gem)

@Trishh @concretelibraries @copystar ah yes that Argentine concrete monster has been on my list since forever. Have you been?

Belconnen was not on my radar however, thanks for the reco!

@timtom @concretelibraries @copystar oh I have. You will love it
@timtom @concretelibraries @copystar (belco was my childhood library, which probably explains a lot)
@Trishh love that overhang! I've dutifully added it to the Impossible List: https://www.google.com/maps/d/u/0/edit?mid=1szLR0PhHx4XcMaMtnmvcBpoLLwU&usp=sharing
Places to go - Libraries – Google My Maps

My own bucket list of libraries to visit. Very subjective & heavily biased towards buildings of the Modernist period, and adaptive reuse projects. I'm also using this map to keep track of all the libraries I've visited over the years. This is by no means a comprehensive list, and inclusion on this list does not necessarily mean you should plan your next trip around them, although it's always a good thing to check out the library when you're travelling :) My favourites are starred.

@Trishh @copystar à propos library tourism, the Quebec public library association just put out this handy travel guide: https://www.abpq.ca/guide_touristique.php
