The real reason is because companies found a money scheme that is long term. subscription services are based around the fact that you will need this software possibly for a while and they take advantage of continuous long term use to get you to pay more in the long term. its a for profit company and this is beneficial to that ideology. In reality they’re exploiting you knowing full well you will pay because they don’t have much competition and you need it long term.
