I made a political cartoon
(someone else probably came up with this before, haven't checked, it's kinda obvious but I thought it was funny)
now I think of it, I should have drawn the door on the right, to make the window movement even larger
@bazkie
Your drawing is so simple!
I love it.
Putting the door on the right would have scrambled some brains: I would have had to imagine the window passing across the door

@estelle thank you! 😊

good point about the door; maybe it is better this way!

@bazkie Fitting OTOH that there's nothing but solid walls on the right ...
@bazkie I'm not getting it..

@trinsec do you know what the overton window is? it's kind of "the window of that which is deemed acceptable by society", and the window is movable, slowly, over time, by normalizing things.

the window is now very, very far on the right..

@bazkie Ah. And no, never heard of an overton window before. Guess I learned something now.

@bazkie @trinsec

Or left, from where I sit.

@DziadekMick @trinsec you sit inside the overton house?

@bazkie @trinsec

You're not going to catch me with the old Russell's Teapot argument.πŸ€“ You said it was moving right. You have to prove it is. Because from my side of the house it isn't.

@DziadekMick @trinsec I'm not sure what you mean.. doing hitler salutes is apparently acceptable now in the US, you should have tried that 20 years ago

so, movement to the right, no?

@bazkie @DziadekMick From my view it's obvious you both are on the opposite sides of the political spectrum. Just block each other and move on, this is just going to end up in troll-ranting.
@trinsec @DziadekMick that was my first thought, but scrolling through their toots, I was wondering if I simply misunderstood something, because they seem somewhat similarly aligned! confusing :)

@bazkie @trinsec

This is great. Politically, we're both on the same side. I stand pretty close to Jeremy Corbyn on the left.

So, where on earth is Trinsec standing?

It doesn't matter. My comments were never about the politics. I was making light of the cartoon, trying (and failing) to make a joke.

It was not my intention to mess with you. I hope I haven't hurt anybody's feelings. I'll just mosey back into my world of humour based on literal meanings.

@DziadekMick @bazkie My window would still be in the damn house.
@DziadekMick thanks for clearing things up! I was suspecting something like that was going on!

@bazkie

Back in the day, I was a troll. Pretty good at it. I used to troll the trolls on forums.

@bazkie

Or, indeed, a historical document.

@bazkie I dont get it, even I think it looks funny. Can you explain it?

@stigcq the overton window is the range of ideas which are deemed acceptable in society. it can be slowly shifted one way or the other; for example, slavery used to be considered acceptable, now it's seen as very bad.

over the past decades, the overton window has been shifting to the right with alarming pace. this cartoon takes that movement to the right literally.

@bazkie I figured something was not right, or ... well it is rigtht... but I get it, thanks for the explanation.
@bazkie incredible coincidence here (saw this two minutes after seeing yours): https://bsky.app/profile/stephencollins.bsky.social/post/3lpkdw7zub22k

@bazkie Is that my right, or the house's right?
@log it's a depiction of today's climate; with that given, the answer should be clear πŸ˜
