I’m sorry, is this “high” contrast in the room with us right now?
@nikitonsky You'll have no problem inserting emojis at least.
@nikitonsky it's contrast when you're high
@nikitonsky That non-offset ‘send’ icon is making me grind my teeth
@colingourlay @nikitonsky what do you mean by non-offset?
@anselmschueler I’m talking about optical cenetring. Here’s a good article on it: https://medium.com/ringcentral-ux/eyeballing-or-optical-alignment-in-design-4ef5ab2d326f
‘Eyeballing’ or Optical Alignment in Design - ringcentral-ux - Medium

There is such a thing as an optical illusion. This is when our brain perceives information a little differently than it actually is in the real world. Likewise, this is characteristic in design. But…

@nikitonsky by high they mean that they were high while making this

@nikitonsky is this an attempt to sell even larger, more expensive phones that nobody needs? You can't even fit five lines of text and an image onto your screen with that design 🤨

Also, I can't be the only one who's reminded of those kids "laptops" from that design

@Sirs0ri @nikitonsky Say.. maybe it's ""4x faster"" because it needs to render even less text now? (though it's hard to imagine 20-25 lines of text in that field) You might be onto something there... 🤔😂
@bojidar_bg @Sirs0ri they mean “faster for users to find the button”
@nikitonsky Perhaps they were referring to contrast by size, but generally I think that M3 Expressive guidelines are contradicting.
@nikitonsky I found the actual article, and I found this mess on the page when hovering over a link near the bottom
@nikitonsky Truth. Also, that cabin doesn’t look amazing… it is like AI tried to charm up the Evil Dead cabin by doing some landscaping.

@nikitonsky I miss when material was about …materials. Tangible sheets with clear extents stacked upon each other with depth and structure.

Sure it wasn't perfect, and I'm sure it had its own problems for certain VI classes, but at least it served most people well, unlike this which …is just an expanse of white.

@zbrown @nikitonsky yeah, I quite like the first version of material design. It was "flat done well, with more affordances", at a time when everyone else was losing their mind while hiding all visual structure possible.

And it had overly flowery language too, but it was largely used to describe *how cool reality is* and why you should want to learn from it.

Since then they've just been repeating all the biggest problems with flat design that material was designed to improve on.

@groxx @nikitonsky I'm honestly not sure the original was flat, especially considering what we've got now.
@nikitonsky look, if they don't keep repeating the design mistakes that Apple made ten years ago, they won't be able to remain competitive
@nikitonsky That action button is as pale as it can get but look we made it twice as big so you can see it!
And all that wasted space around the toolbar at the bottom
@nikitonsky we are still searching for it, must be somewhere on this screenshot. Anybody found it? 🤡
